Dragon Cup Badminton Championships 2005

Sunday 22 May 2005 Mansfield State High School, Brisbane.

Welcome to the Dragon Cup 2005 webpage. The event was another success, competitors from as far as Coffs Harbour, big group from Gold Coast all the way to Sunshine Coast, and of course our local Brisbane players as well as our very own Dragon Club members. We had a total of 99 competitors this year, a bit shorter on our previous Dragon Cup with 147 entries, but as a one day event, we are overwhelmed with the response, and a very nice number to have for a one day carnival. One amazing note is that this year we attracted all the entries without using one single stamp or envelop! Shows what technology can do hey!

Thanks to our sponsors - Powerade, Redbull (Redbull sent their apology as the girl was sick, they promised to the there next year though); Alan & Allen, Leon Chinese Restaurant, Betta Electronics, Webster World of Fitness, Aqua Water, Coffee Square, Metro Buzz Stop Café, Sushi Station, Rebel Sports, Mitre 10, So delicious, Yonex Australia, Carlton, Winex, Yang Yang, Racket Sports, World News Weekly, Queensland Asia Business Weekly, Queensland Chinese News and the Bridge Magazine, this year we bring all competitors a goodie bag with loads of freebies, free gym pass worth $95, free T-shirt, free Aqua water, free chips, free Uncle Toby's bar, free souvenir (keyring, mini-shuttle or grip), free Rebel Sports discount card, free lunch voucher, free Powerade, we were told it's the best goodies bag ever seen in any badminton tournaments in Queensland ever! We handed out 106 trophies/plates in all. The free prize draw gave away over 80 prizes including Racket bags, wrist bands, socks, grips, tumblers, restaurant vouchers and even a latest Nano racket! We did our very best to make each participant a very enjoyable and memorable event, and we think everyone enjoyed the event tremendously.

This year, we trialed the Dragon Cup as a one day event, and it certainly proved it is much more popular than a complete weekend event. People these days have far too many other commitments. We will use a bigger venue next time, but will keep to the one day event.
